Are we sheeshing or not..

This is gonna be a short rant because its late am bored and  I just have to vent and let of some smoke out here.
So I decided to try Shisha Lounge since I guess am a bit of  hokah head. The interior is quite nice and there were actully a lot of people there because its Xmas etc etc..
I'll just go straight to the point. -- One of the worst Shisha I've ever done .. I could even taste kerosene or something of that sort and not the mint flavor I ordered. A few puffs and I was done.

I will go back there on a calm day though because for all you know the problem came from them having such a busy night.
But for now its a no no no.
For good shisha thats always on point try DNR Turkish Restaurant ask of Auntie Muna, Venus Bar ask of Eddie, Chase restaurant and Mystika ask of Elvis.
I shall review all these places this week so keep posted.

"Pinocchio" Tells no Lies

Something positive this week, barely 3 weeks old, the latest gelataria in Accra is  Pinocchio. Located in Osu on the Embassy Road off Oxford Street, (opposite Firefly) a new addition to the sweet treats of the city. Not only does this joint serve one of the best if not the best Ice cream it doubles up as a Fast food and Restaurant, " La Piazza" which I shall subsequently have a review on soon.

The decor is clean and crisp colorfully designed down  to the waiters who I guess are dressed to resemble the puppet Pinocchio in his yellow and hot pink attire .  With seating space indoor and an outdoor terrace to dine in.

Offering over 40 different flavors of Gelato Ice cream ranging from Passion fruit Stracciatella, Tiramisu, strawberry, mint, Lemon, 5 different kinds of chocolate amongst a whole array of other flavours. So far I have been able to try at least 10 flavors or so. The chocolate I selected though was a bit biter for my liking. The portion is adequately sizeable and price range from as low as 5Ghs to 10Ghs

If you desire Milkshakes too they are available in any flavor of your  choosing, I decided on the strawberry flavor , which was quite satisfying with some real pieces of strawberry inside the mix lol.

Beef Burger with Extra Bacon.

A must try is the Beef Burger or the Pinocchio's Burger which is accompanied with a side of Fries and salad. This is not your ordinary junk food burger it was to me a bit more gourmet styled burger. Very juicy, filling and well done

Their menu includes, club sandwiches, Panini/Baguettes, Savoury Crepes, Omlettes, Salads and Pizza.

The Classic Club Sandwich- Chicken Tomato crispy bacon and lettuce

So far I have visited this place a couple of times and although they have made little mistakes here and there it has been so far a pleasant experience and I would recommend you to try it out.

La Tante DC 10 Restaurant Maiden Flight and Crash Landing

There has been mixed reviews about the acquisition of  an airplane  from Ghana's defunct airline Ghana Airways and it being converted to a restaurant.  This is my opinion and my experience thus far, albeit an interesting concept I have no issue with it being used as a restaurant considering the fact that the plane just lay to waste and rotting away.  This isn't about what is right or what is wrong, this is about what that restaurant is.

Firstly this may be harsh but this is what actually transpired on the 1st day in which La Tante DC 10 was opened to the pubic, This is my experience and I know some others will experience it differently but there is no excuse whatsoever for what transpired on that faithful Monday evening.

The restaurant is located at the Kotoka International Airport via the side access road and basically opposite the Marina Mall at the Airport City.  It sure can't be missed the plane is painted with a vomit of GREEN, which I  never understood why they were painting it such an unwelcoming color only for later a huge club beer poster was plastered on it. Advertisement perhaps but really seriously.

Monday 11th November La Tante DC 10 opens to the public..
Parking space is adequate.  We enter the restaurant and are warmly received and directed to our seats.  First impression the decor is very underwhelming, for such a great idea I was  woefully disappointed, aside the main entrance reception space which was okay.   The restaurant area consisted of airplane seats on each side and middle row areas had basic seats and tables. My question to myself was , could they not hire an interior decor for a consult to do the decor. P.s not forgetting the disco lights which lined the emergency exit lights that basically light up during airline emergencies. The experience of the decor is on par to a low rate restaurant with an upgrade of air conditioning.

The seats being its an old plane and basically economy seats are quite small and uncomfortable. Not forgetting this blackish thing which was above our table ( the baggage compartments) I pray it wasn't mildew or something.

After our drinks came we had to wait 20 minutes before our order was taking after we had approached other waiters to call our waitress to come take the orders.  The menu is very short and brief and limited.  I normally will ask how long food will take and I start timing from there. I was told my food will take 50 minutes whereas my friends will take 20.

The restaurant surely runs on Ghana Time, my friends food came after 40 minutes plus except for 1. After 50 minutes plus my food still hadn't arrived, by this time I was fuming but still keeping calm considering it was their first night although they cant be excusd for that, considering the restaurateur has at least 2/3 other restaurants so this isn't anything new to them , this is what a rookie restaurant can be excused for.  Mind you my friends ordered  a chicken sandwich and kelewele. Their review was that the chicken sandwich was horrible but the kelewele was nice. So I decided to have my food packed for take out because we had somewhere else to go. They ended packing my food along with my friends own. ( Most of the customers that were there ended up taking takeaways because they also had waited for a long time)

This is where "excuse me to say" the Nonsense hits the Fan. - I decided to open the food and taste it cos I was hungry at that point.

First bite, cold jollof rice, and am like uhhhhmm, next bite cold jollof and am like what is going on....
At this point am totally Over It. I head to the front desk and make it known to the waitress and waiter who were at that point struggling to calculate our bill. (Waiters and waitresses were a bit confused throughout the Night)
The manageress by my presumption was close by so I told her about the incident of Packed Cold Jollof. In her wisdom she tells  me ohh they are going to Microwave it and bring it back to me .... Pause pause... If I came here for microwaveable food I would have bought Epo and even that would have come piping hot.

I've tried to wrap my head around this incident and this is my conclusion. Sheer incompetence, I didnt even get an apology for what happened , I sure wasn't going to pay for the food, If they had microwaved it before presenting it to me fine, I would never have known; but to bring it to me for take out; cold, is beyond my reasoning.

If this airplane restaurant is following in the footsteps of the now defunct Ghana Airways, it wont be long before they find themselves as empty as the state in which they first acquired the plane.

This place currently in its state of affairs I wouldn't recommend for anyone.

Ok so I finally find some time away from my busy schedule to get this done with. Sorry for the delay but I assure you this post is gonna be real as It can get...

Lets start with the new before we go out with the Old...
I recently discovered this new FroYo place within the vicinity of Koala in Osu... I first saw their faebook page and their opening event. Since I work close by I decided to go visit the place. Located within the same premises of Koala, basically upstairs is Ci Gusta. They serve Frozen Yoghurt , ice cream basically 2 flavors and they also serve up some waffles.
I have tried the waffles and its not bad on a good day. They have very pleasant staff and they basically serve a very creamy and soft FroYo with the options of various toppings from Kiwi, strawberry, blueberries etc etc
The FroYo comes in original and light varieties. They also serve cofee.
The environment and decor is very clean and relaxing.
Only 2 negative things I have to say about this place is they close when Koala shop closes so you wont get any yoghurt after 8.30/ 9pm
and a few weeks back they started prepacking and freezing their yoghurt..tried it once and blahhh never, but recently revisited and it seems they may have stopped. If they haven't just refuse to purchase the pre frozen one.

Ci Gusta
Sogurt Yogurt
Now lets resurrect the dead or basically the one living on Life Support if that's what they call it. Sogurt Yoghurt, I dont know if they have ever had better days or not, because if my memory serves me right a friend encouraged me to try their stuff when they first opened, I recall it was called Alibaba and it was supposed to be a yoghurt sundae or trifle of sorts with yoghurt cake etc, what i received that day was rather a machination of pure nastiness, a few spoonfuls and I  was over it and it was in the trash. I have taste aversions and if something strikes me us horrible once, it will take so much will and power for me to ever try it out ever again... fast forward to 2013 September, been working in a Clinic at the ANC for months now and the food court boasts of one of the most uninspiring eateries ever so I hardly patronize any eatery out there, I'll go into each establishment on a later blog.  Lets get back  to this sordid story, so a friend visited me at work and we just went strolling around and I don't know what hex drew me to enter Sogurt Yogurt but I ended up purchasing a Frozen Yoghurt or what i was meant to believe was Frozen Yoghurt which cost about 10ghc.  What i tasted was absolutely despicable, when did frozen yoghurt start tasting like a hybrid of ice slushy  and tasteless white blahhh, I cant even describe what suffering I had just put my taste buds through, one spoonful had me at Goodbye. I just paid them their coins and told them that was the worst "yoghurt" if that's what they call it I've ever tasted. Only good thing a friend told me was their cake which is overpriced i think 11ghc a slice. Aside that there this place I wouldnt recmmend to anyone to go try nothng there. I dont know if they lack management from the owner or what but something definetly is going wrong there which needs to be addressed ..

I like food in fact I love good food and I wouldn't bat an eye to spend good money on good food.
Ghana is booming and growing in the Restaurant and Eatery and Bar Industry. This blog is about Taste,  a perception of the Good the Bad and The Ugly. Where to go and where not to go. Where to spend your hard earned money or not. Over the years I have been to several places cause I enjoy eating out a lot. One thing I notice in Ghana is that the Services Industry are not accountable to anyone even the customer.. I noticed at times when bad services are rendered the I don't care mentality always creeps up. Maybe its because they know the customers don't have a voice and many Ghanaian's  will just not be bothered to complain. Well things are about to change.  Am not here to break or defame or popularize anyplace. This is basically my point of view, plain constructive criticism . Am not a gastronomy expert, but my taste buds are refined enough to be able to give my opinion. Join me on this journey on TasteGh ,enjoying Ghana one bite at a time.
